The Journey Continues...

Recently, I did a photoshoot with photographer, Shawn Fields, who was  a pleasure to work with. My make -up artiste, Alphaeus Litcot and I had a great time there. Shawn's wife was an absolute darling, she even provided us with refreshments! After Alfie had finished my make-up, we went into his studio where the shoot began. I met upcoming photographer, Michael Alleyne, who also took some shots of his own and his wife who chose the jewelry which was made by the talented, Louise Parris. I won't torture you much longer, here are the photos:

Confessions Of A Shopaholic

I absolutely love to shop... trying on clothes, looking through the racks and putting together the pieces in my mind in order to create various outfits. This year, I've taken the plunge into thrift and sale shopping, I have no idea why I didn't do it before. Rave in Satjay mall had a sale that ended last Saturday, everything in the store for $50 which I took advantage of. I knew that I was searching for new heels to revamp my wardrobe because I had thrown out a lot of stretched out, faded and destroyed clothing also I had given away a lot of clothing that given to me by my mum (who doesn't understand me fashionably). As many of you know, I have a weakness for (faux) animal print and fur... I'm an animal rights activist and I wouldn't wear the skin of butchered animals.

These are the shoes I got at the sale...

I've never owned pointed tip shoes, so I'm pretty excited about these.

My other platforms had rotted from neglect when I was pregnant with Ximena so I needed to replace them.

That's basically it for now, next stop... jewelry.

The Voice Within

Last night, I sang in Semi-final #1 of the Richard Stoute Teen Talent Contest. A great friend of mine, Zoe Trotman, was my fairy godmother and provided me with the necessities I would have lacked in order to perform in the show. Orlando Williams, aided in sponsoring me but unfortunately I was unable to fit into the dress but luckily I had brought a spare dress. Raven, was my hair stylist and make-up artiste for the evening.

I sang, "Part Of Your World" by Jodi Benson, because I felt that my rendition of, "Don't Cry For Me Argentina" by Madonna, needed more work. I learned the musical version and was having a hard time replacing it with the studio version. I needed more time and that was the one thing I did not have, a few hours the most. In my stage presence, I felt I have done more.. I tend to hinder myself because of my nervousness. It's like I'm paralyzed but I force myself to move every 5 seconds like clockwork so that I would not stay in the same position the entire song. During the instrumental in my second song, "Memory" by Elaine Paige, I wondered to myself..."What the hell am I going to do? Its at least 15+ secs." However, vocally I was commended on being "on point" by several members in the audience, the contestants and the backstage employees. All I can do now is hope that I earned a spot in the finals and if I have... I have a lot of work cut out for me. I'd hate to lose my chance in winning this competition because I let my nerves get the better of me. I know that I have what it takes, I practice everyday... I hear my ability and I know that I can only get better.

I'd like to thank those who continuously support me... you guys are the best :).

Fallen Coin In The Wishing Well

I entered the Richard Stoute Teen Talent after a last minute decision to do so and in record time as well. I found out when I arrived at 'practice' that three days from then was the last preliminary. I felt prepared, I had chosen to sing a Whitney Houston classic, 'I Have Nothing' and a 1992 chart topper called, 'Stay' by Shakespeare's Sister.  Having found out that my first song choice was chosen, I opted to change them both... I then chose a ballad from Walt Disney's The Little Mermaid, "Part Of Your World" and "Hallelujah" by Alexandra Burke to advance me to the next round. Thankfully, they both did.

(This is how I looked after my preliminary at around 2 am.)

Now that I am in the semi-finals, I've decided to take on more challenging songs and I hope I won't pay dearly for it. Feel free to come out and support me this Sunday at The Plantation Garden Theatre. Tomorrow I've got a busy day ahead of me, wish me luck! I'm off to bed now, its after 2 am now. Toodles!

They Call Me The Dream Chaser

Once again I'm guilty of being inactive on my blog, I'm going to try to do something about that. These days I've been rather busy, I did a couple photo shoots, fashion shows and even some singing. Let's start from the beginning:

I answered a casting call on ModelMayhem from RadBe Photography, a Bajan born photographer based in Connecticut. We met up at the (abandoned) Almond Beach Hotel where we did a casual fashion shoot. It was great working with Rad, not only did he embrace my craziness.. he took the time to find out my weaknesses and worked very hard in helping me overcome them. We climbed arch structures, braved mosquitoes, crawled and shot silhouettes in the setting sun. Hard work always pays off and here are a few photos from the finished product:

I had also gotten two photos from my previous shoot with my friend, Franz Gittens. After our first shoot, we decide to do another shoot but being that I didn't bring any other clothes, I had to improvise. Hope you like them!

Recently, I auditioned for the PHOTACC panel to become part of their model base. I walked at the Small Business Association's "Fashion Show" and the Saint Philip's Constituency Council Annual Trade Show's "Fashion Show". I collaborated with amazing designers such as Orlando Williams, owner of LindaBelle Creations and Designs, talented make-up artistes (Anansah and Alfie Litcot) and amazing models, whom I hope to work again with in the near future. Shemara Morris was one in particular, a single mother and aspiring model whom I became fast friends with. She's confident, beautiful, a trend setter and not afraid to stand for what she believes in even if it means standing alone. She has a smile that would light up an entire room not to mention a walk that makes everyone in the room stop what they are doing and pay attention. She makes her presence known and I have a feeling she will make an impact in the fashion world for petite models. Here's to making dreams come true!
